PTA MEETING MINUTES APRIL 2024


Wednesday, April 3, 2024 – 6:30 EDT

Approve March Minutes - No discussion, minutes approved.

 

Auditorium Progress
Mr Knupp discusses the auditorium plans. He shares blueprint rendering of space. He
shared a shopping/wish list of what would be needed to create a better space for stage
productions. He presented a funding goal /total of cost ranging from $19k-$30k. If this
were to become more of a community space it would increase the value of what our
school has to offer.

 

PTA Focus: Bringing community together.

 

REMINDERS
● CORI Checks: Please make sure to do all paperwork for your CORI check 2
weeks prior to volunteering in the school - this includes bringing your ID to Ms.
Barefoot before your scheduled volunteer day.
● Building Procedures for Volunteers: Be sure to always sign in at front desk
and grab a visitor sticker to wear visibly while in the building.
● Meeting/Events childcare: Drop off in the cafeteria. Children will be onsite at

the Lyndon, for gym time, arts and crafts, and board games. Questions? email:

Lyndon Reflections Showcase tentative for April or May.
First place winners have moved on to the Massachusetts state PTA competition and, if
chosen, will be honored at the Mass PTA annual meeting on April 6th in Lexington

 

Lyndon Night at Fenway Park
We have sold 298 tickets!! We are sold out of our original 282 + the additional row of 26
(reserving 10 for giving away)

 

We Need Your Help!
● Co/Vice chairs for Room Parent program
○ Shadow current chair and assist in leading the room parent program
○ Responsibilities include: Email communication with room parents and
teachers, planning room parent breakfast in October, and supporting room
parents with crafts or projects as needed

 

Building up 2 start up Committees:
○ Finance Committee: Focused on the budget, assist with annual audit
○ Academic Enrichment Committee: Focused on educational school
programing (field trips, assemblies, classroom visits), grant writing and
partnering with outside organizations, and working with teachers and staff
to tailor these opportunities to their curriculum

● Turkey Trot Team: Fundraising ‘street team’, support current turkey trot chair,
day of event team.
Field Day Planning Team:
○ We are looking for a few parents/guardians to take the lead in
coordinating field day efforts this year
○ Next planning meeting is scheduled for 4/29 @ 8:15am

2024-2025 PTA Board Elections May 1st!
Board positions open for Secretary and Treasurer:
○ Treasurer Role: Attend PTA meetings, take meeting notes, act as the
PTA ‘historian’ - record and catalog the work of the PTA
○ Secretary Role: Attend PTA meetings, take meeting notes, act as the
PTA ‘historian’ - record and catalog the work of the PTA, help manage
social media

Treasurer Update
- Sharing the budget at the May meeting
- Will share a draft budget ahead of the meeting to encourage people to come with
questions for a smooth, speedy meeting
Lyndon SSC Governance Board
Upcoming Meetings
2nd Thursday of the Month from 6 - 7:30 pm
● Apr 11 – SY23-24 QSP presentation and review
● May 9 – SY24-25 QSP presentation and approval
● Jun 13 – Summer and Fall planning
Board Openings
● In the Fall, we will have 4 parent spots open on the board (per the Lyndon SSC
bylaws).
● Please reach out to a current representative to learn more!

CPC UPDATES
● District Wellness Action Plan
○ Overall school-based wellness councils declined, only 69% of schools
submitted a wellness action plan.
○ only 11% had a parent rep, only 5% had a student rep
○ only 15% of high school students, report that they’re getting at least 8
hours of sleep a night, lower than state and national averages.

● SSC and SFC Functioning Evaluation
○ family engagement is central to student success, yet is lacking at many
schools and district
○ here are specific guidelines but policies often are not followed.
○ CPC is starting an in-depth evaluation to help inform advocacy for
resources, support, and skills training, as well as maintaining
accountability
○ individual CPC reps will be trained and collect data from their own school
councils using a rubric the CPC family engagement team has developed.

○ data will be collected at the beginning of 2025.
○ CPC will also reach out to schools without a rep to help with support for
electing reps and to collect data.
○ Data will be analyzed by the end of the school year.
● Election for Leadership Team next meeting
● Petition to fully fund Dual Language school programming

DELAC Updates
● Jenny Marcelin has stepped down as our Lyndon DELAC representative.
● We are now looking for a Lyndon parent/guardian of an EL student to represent
the Lyndon on this citywide committee.

SpEdPAC Updates
● March meeting focused on Support Services for Students with Autism & Autism
Supports in BPS
● Special guest speaker Lisa Nowinski (Clinical Director of the MGHfC Lurie
Center) discussed what you should do once you receive an autism diagnosis for
your child, and what therapies and supports are available
● Important medical and psychiatric conditions that can be co-occurring with autism

● We were also joined by Zachary Houston (Asst. Director for Applied Behavior
Analysis, BPS) to discussed the various autism supports in BPS
● Identified students’ primary disabilities and various counseling and therapeutic
interventions

FOTL UPDATES
Save the date: Spring Auction - May 2nd @ The Elks
● FOTL has funded $13k this year
● Currently working on robotics and middle school play funding
