About the Lyndon School Site Council – Governance Board

The Lyndon School Site Council (SSC) is the governing body of the school. The SSC oversees educational policy and programs, participates in the selection and evaluation of the school leaders, hires and onboards new staff, and reviews the finances and operations of the school. The SSC also sets the vision and mission of the school and keeps it at the center of all decision making.

The Lyndon SSC is composed of an equal number of staff and parent volunteers, with the school co-leaders sharing one vote. Meetings are open to ALL community members and take place the 2nd Thursday of each month from 6 - 7:30 pm both in person and on zoom. Meeting agendas and notes can be found here.

The bulk of the SSC work happens in committees, which each meet once a month in between general SSC meetings. Committee participation is open to ALL community members, as are the meetings.

What does it mean to be a pilot school in BPS?

In May, 2023, Dan French, the recently retired former Executive Director at the Center for Collaborative Education, held a Zoom meeting for the SSC and the Lyndon Community to learn more about pilot schools in BPS and understand what it means for the Lyndon to be a pilot school.

For those who are not familiar, it was Boston's partnership with CCE that led to the creation of pilot schools in BPS including our very own Lyndon. His knowledge of pilot schools is vast and he is deeply passionate about education.

The meeting had the following goals in mind:

  • To relay what it means to be a pilot school
  • The autonomies pilot schools have
  • And their historical place within BPS
