General Meeting 

 

Wednesday, Mar 2, 2022 – 6:30 EDT

Agenda overview

 

Key speaker: City Councilor District 6 Kendra Lara- Introduction. Nora McManus Vincent

Goals/interest- BPS’ important role and environmental justice and resiliency, responsibility for accountability, public safety violence prevention. Councilor Kendra opened up the floor to questions from the attendees.

 

Q: Is there an opportunity for parents to volunteer regarding environmental justice and resiliency?

A:Absolutely!

Q: Frank Galvin Masks policy removal for children in BPS in line with the CITY OF BOSTON Mandates.

A: Will reach out to superintendent to see what guidance will be followed

Updates 

Membership historical comparison – anyone who signs up in the month of march RED SOX TICKETS AVAILABLE for a MAY game drawing.

 

Accomplishments and Ongoing Events:

Due to the omicron variant, Spelling bee was not able to happen but was paid for by the pta. Hoping next year we will be able to participate.

 

Reflections Contest- Sam Lewis. Some categories were not fulfilled but the winners have moved on to the MA State competitions. Hopes for an Art showcase later this Spring. If interested in participating in Reflections next year feel free to contact Sam. Potential slide show presentation to display and celebrate the participants.  Congratulations to our First Place Winners!

Even if you missed the first session, the second session is still open. More information on the website.

 

BOOK FAIR:

Hopes for an in person event. Volunteers will be needed and very much appreciated.

 

Friends of the Lyndon: Joy Mello

Spring event! Spring Fiesta and Fundraiser Opportunity to raise funds while supporting a new local small business.

Social/Emotional Health:

Opportunity for community recognition and connection. Plans to set up a PTA funded workshop via BPAS & Associated partners that will run over 7 wks. 1st year to run it for middle school students (8th grade with the potential for 6th and 7th graders next year)

 Dr. Jill Walsh regarding internet safety/cyber bullying and cyber health. Initially planned for Jan but with Omicron it had to be postponed. Dr. Walsh is currently booked but we will continue to purse this. If interested, please reach out to the PTA.

 

SSC- Julie Ma 3/3 meeting in addition to Feb meeting. Will be addressing questions about the budget that came up in the Jan meeting.

(Maya add on) PTA role clarification. Not governance but to support the members of the school community. SSC has 6 parent and 6 faculty members. The parent members are representations of us all. Urge you to attend meetings to ensure the governing council runs in a transparent fashion. If interested in educating yourself on what was involved in the meeting, please feel free to reach out to the PTA.

 

CITYWIDE PARENT COUNCIL- Sarah- meeting on 3/1 regarding parents’ involvement in the council. Representation from BPS regarding the My Way Café.

How do the parents get more interaction with the Superintendent? Requested Nora follow up with the counselor regarding transparency regarding exam schools and data from BPS provided to the parents.

 

Friends of the Lyndon- Joy spoke previously. Friends of the Lyndon and PTA are working closely to accomplish Dr. Walsh sessions. Reminder of upcoming meeting.

 

Room Parents- Pamela not in attendance.

 

OUTDOOR CLASSROOM- NOT IN ATTENDANCE. Updates will be available via the website.

 Caring community: Bonnie Carey Currently collecting Target GC 5 more people needed to buy $10 GC to reach a goal for a family in need. Collection will now be an ongoing goal with the PTA.

 

Equity Round Table- Sam Lewis Will be continuing to work on the Mission Statement. Work on family liaison website link accessibility.

 

Treasurer's Report: Ed Greenaway

Goal can be accomplished $50gc

Not much has changed since DEC. We are doing great with the success of TT and Lyndon gear sales, etc.  Potential 18-20 k carry over. Amy Browne will be emailing the staff regarding the teacher Grant. Potential community appreciation event could be in the works.

 

Fundraising updates: hand raising for potential summer Lyndon gear. Lee Rushton will organize.
